The team registration fees partly help cover the cost to hire equipment, pay for volunteer and judge lunches and other bits and pieces needed to run a robotics competition.

We would love to see local businesses, academics, and adult students help judge! It's a great experience, doesn't involve any prior understanding of the competition or robotics. We'll train you up and always partner you up with 1 or 2 other judges of experience to help you out!

Additionally we also need general volunteers for the tournament. These roles are suited for Year 8+ students or adults. Schools bringing volunteers please fill out the volunteer sign up form below to help us in organising our volunteers.

Engineering Notebooks

Due date for Submission Link: Following RECF guidelines, the Engineering Notebooks will be evaluated as judges gain access via the link you provide in Robot Events. However please ensure you have your link on RobotEvents by Wednesday 29th October 10AM

NotebooksPlease follow this guide to have your books appropriately linked on Robot Events.

Is it compulsory to have engineering notebooks for teams?: No
Does it preclude from some awards?: Yes - more information here

Please note: <RJ3> Remote Digital Engineering Notebook Judging

  • Once a Digital Engineering Notebook (DEN) link is uploaded via RobotEvents.com, teams may still update their DEN on an ongoing basis, even on event day. Notebook content is expected to change over time, which is part of the Engineering Design Process. However, it is not expected that Judges will re-evaluate a notebook based on materials submitted after the initial evaluation.
  • Note: Teams must submit the Innovate Award Submission Form by the posted DEN submission deadline. Alterations or additions after this period may not be reviewed and/or accepted.

Please note

<EN16> For digitally submitted notebooks, teams should make every effort to submit their notebook as a .PDF file. This standardized format can generally be opened in a web browser without additional software or logins by remote judges. Teams should also attempt to keep their notebook under 500 MBs in size; larger sizes become a burden to judges to download and view and may be inaccessible on metered internet connections.

Teams may continue working on their engineering notebooks as stated in RJ3 however to help judges try and follow EN16. If you link to a Google Drive Folder / OneDrive Folder / DropBox that has one ONE engineering notebook inside as a PDF this allows you to manage updates from your team as they continue to make updates. It is on the coach that a team's book is accessible - if a judge can't access the book via a public link it won't be judged.

Test your links (i.e. - try it on a different computer without account access). This is the approach that occurs at VEX Worlds and is important for our local teams to understand so we are prepared!

Email DATTA SA (office@datta.sa.edu.au) with any issues around getting the book to us or alert us if you are not submitting a book.

Innovate Award - linked to Engineering Notebooks

This year the innovate award which the VIQC Middle School and VRC High School has a new requirement. Details on this requirement for the award can be found here. This form should be scanned into your books and put just after the table of contents

RobotEvents

Please keep your details updated on RobotEvents (adding your additional coaches etc). We pull the CSV from RobotEvents as a means to contact coaches and without correct email contacts we can't reach all the coaches.

Internet Access

There is no public internet access we can guarantee at UniSA. Please keep this in mind when students are using Chromebooks/iPads that need to be connected to the internet for compiling.

Student Centered Program

At the heart of a VEX Robotic Competitions is the Student Centered approach demonstrated by teams across the season. Judges will be keen to see that student-centered approach which guides a number of awards handed out.

VRC - Student Centered - The Do's and Don'ts of Teams and Coaches

VIQC - Student Centered - The Do's and Don'ts of Teams and Coaches

Rubbish

Please encourage students that will be eating snacks throughout the day to place rubbish where possible (i.e chips packet, chocolate bar wrapper) back into their lunch box to help with minimising rubbish thrown in the UniSA bins.

Location
