What personal data we collect and why we collect it

DATTA SA Forum

When DATTA SA members leave comments on the forum we collect the data shown in the post, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. Gravatar is used if you decide to change your profile picture on the website.

We collect information about you during the signup process as well as some basic activities such as the dates you make purchases, login to the site, or cancel/pause/resume your subscriptions with us.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

If you have an account and you log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

How we protect your data

DATTA SA uses encryption throughout the website (see the HTTPS secure certificate in your browser) . Our administrators are forced to use 2STEP authentication to get into the backend of the system. If a members password was to be lost/stolen the account would only have access to the membership data of that specific user – no other membership data would be compromised.

What data breach procedures we have in place

If a data breach occurs we will notify all members advising of the breach and precautions to take in order to safe guard their accounts.

At DATTA SA we recommend that all members use separate passwords for all their accounts (i.e Facebook, Twitter, Banking etc) and if possible a trusted password application such as www.1password.com

What third parties we receive data from

When you sign up to an event using Eventbrite your email is sync’d with our main MailChimp mailing list. You can unsubscribe from this list at anytime.

What DATTA SA collect and store

When you subscribe with us, we’ll ask you to provide an email address. We’ll use this information for purposes, such as, to:
