DATTA SA VEX Tournament

DATE: 15th September 2023
Location: Tonsley Innovation District

Welcome to the information page for the first ever DATTA SA VEX Tournament!

Please note this page will be updated constantly leading up to event!

Students can compete in divisions based on their age and the type of competition they in (VEX IQ or VEX V5 systems).

If you are brand new to VEX Robotics please see more information on VEX IQ Competitions or VEX V5 Competitions

Our team registration fee's partly help cover the cost to hire equipment, pay for judge lunches and other bits and pieces needed to run a robotics competition.  If your school / organisation supplies a judge, your organisation will receive $60 off your total invoice. So what are you waiting for, get your parent body involved, there is absolutely no prior knowledge needed!

We would love to see local businesses help judge! It's a great experience, doesn't involve any prior understanding of the competition or robotics.

We'll train you up and always partner you up with 1 or 2 other judges of experience to help you out!

Basic Times for School teams to help you plan for buses! Judges will be provided with modifications to this time schedule as we can accomodate needs to leave earlier.

Engineering Notebooks

This year we are implementing a "pre event" judging process for engineering notebooks. This is to ensure the tournament runs on time and judges have everything they need to conduct team interviews.

We need all teams to submit engineering notebooks by Friday 8th September, 11:59pm.
If you have trouble getting the link setup with instructions below please PDF email the book to me. Email me with any issues around getting the book to us or alert us if you are not submitting a book.

Information on how to submit your engineering notebooks can be found here.

Innovate Award - linked to Engineering Notebooks

This year the innovate award which the VIQC Middle School and VRC High School has a new requirement. Can you please print and fill out the PDF attached and bring it to the tournament or send it to me before next Friday. Details on this requirement for the award can be found here.

Awards handed out on the day and qualification spots for the Pedare SA Regional Championships can be found:

Judged Awards Criteria

A team can only win 1 judged award. However a team can win a performance award (i.e Teamwork Champion, an award that is based on the robots performance) and a judged award.
VIQC Middle School Awards

VRC Middle School Awards

VRC High School Awards

RobotEvents

Please keep your details updated on RobotEvents (adding your additional coaches etc). We pull the CSV from RobotEvents as a means to contact coaches and without correct email contacts we can't reach all the coaches.

Internet Access

There is no public internet access we can guarantee at Tonsley. Please keep this in mind when students are using Chromebooks/iPads that need to be connected to the internet for compiling.

Student Centered Program

At the heart of a VEX Robotic Competitions is the Student Centered approach demonstrated by teams across the season. Judges will be keen to see that student-centered approach which guides a number of awards handed out.

VRC - Student Centered - The Do's and Don'ts of Teams and Coaches

VIQC - Student Centered - The Do's and Don'ts of Teams and Coaches

Rubbish

Map

The event will be held right next to the "Tonsley Garden" which is inside the precinct.

For schools that are doing a bus drop off, the MAB Eastern Promenade is a good location with a very small walk then into the Tonsley Garden area.

Buses parking on the day - Tonsley has a new road constructed with a large cul de sac perfect for schools that are driving buses and need to park them. I have spoken to the ground team and have been given the all clear. Google maps shows it as a dirt patch but it is a built up road now
